Workshop I

The Taming of Light
Norbert Götz, Theater der Schatten Bamberg, Germany

This intensive three-day workshop will study light as the major instrument and means of expression in contemporary shadow theatre. It is the quality of the light which significantly influences any type of production. From the choice of lighting, its manipulation and control, and how it affects the narrative – every aspect of the utilization of light will be dealt with which make it possible to understand and experience the shadow as a dark and controllable substance. Topics covered will be: the Phenomenon „Shadow“; The Taming of Light; Light as an Instrument; Acting in Front of the Screen; Reflection.


Workshop II
Mon. 12.10. – Wed. 14.10, 9.00 – 17.00 Uhr
Suitcase Shadow Theatre
Hansueli Trueb, Das Theater-Pack, Switzerland
This workshop will show you how to create a small, easily carried and handy shadow theatre stage in a suitcase. It can be set up in just a few moments, is ready for action and contains all of the technical equipment you will need. Of course you will also learn about the possibilities of performing plays with this suitcase shadow theatre. There will be a charge of € 100.- per person for material costs.

The Art of Hand Shadow Playing
Members of the Kakashi-za Theatre, Japan
The members of Kakashi-za will do an introduction into the art of hand shadow plays. In addition to traditional forms and figures they will show the possibilities and facets of cooperation with several players.
